Scholarship Application Tips
  • Due to the competitive nature of the application process, as well as limited scholarship awards, please be sure to fill out all forms completely with careful attention to detail.
  • If you were not selected to receive a scholarship award in previous application periods, review your qualifications and academic improvements from previous applications.
  • If you were previously selected to receive a scholarship award, you may re-apply. Prior scholarship award does not guarantee you will receive an award during this period. Each application, even from a previous recipient, must be complete, with an original application, new essay, and all qualifications and required materials enclosed.
Prior to application submission
  • Gaining the guidance of a mentor or respected business professional who can guide you through the process is highly recommended.  Utilize their guidance for essay critique and to proofread your application.
  • Be ready with the necessary information and experience to apply for need and/or merit-based funding.
  • Be sure you meet, or will meet all required qualifications for the scholarship.  Be prepared to provide evidence of eligibility prior to funding.
  • Make a checklist of what you need to have for the application.
  • Make a print out of your ENTIRE application and keep it in a folder. That way, if your submission is lost, you can easily and quickly submit another copy.
  • Be sure to provide all required documents with your application. Applications may be rejected for being incomplete.
Be prepared prior to the due date.
Essay tips
  • Keep in mind the review committee will be reviewing a large volume of applications, and are not always looking for the most decorated students, but looking for applicants that fit the core values and vision for the fashion foundation.
  • Incorporate your personal philosophies, career goals, as well as your visions of the evolution of the industry within your essay.  Making a personal connection through your writing will enhance your visibility within the committee.
  • Always keep requested topics within the context of your essay.
  • If you are making a case based on financial need, please dedicate at least one paragraph.  If you feel your case for financial need has shaped your design visions, or is relevant to portraying your personality you may include additional text.

Finalizing your application package
  • Include recommendation letters from respected teachers and mentors.
  • Include a summary page with any achievements, extracurricular activities, scholastic achievements, and unique qualities that were not written into your personal summary or essay.
